Turbo goes live

Published: 2009-03-13 14:03:35

Opera Software today published a test build of Opera with Turbo, its new server-side compression, enabled. It is targetted at people surfing on a limited bandwidth, such as over a telephone modem or mobile network, and who want to run a full browser and not Opera Mini or similar solutions.

I’ve tried it out a bit, and it is nice for making pages appear faster. It even works for faster networks, but image quality is greatly diminished, so don’t try browsing Flickr with Turbo enabled. Since I have bought a USB GSM/UMTS modem, which allows med to connect to the ’net almost anywhere, I am planning on trying it out a bit more in detail later.
