Well, with the other postings here, it really seems it was just "bad
luck". Of course, these were two different defects, but I was very
surprised to get both in a defective state.

Well, for the time being, I will not do much with it. I am covered with
other projects.

Anyway, for the long run, I'd like to add 1581 support into d64copy (of
cbm4linux/cbm4win).

But this is not very high on my personal todo list.
