The remark of MArtijn made me realise that the attached HD was a 16-bit one and therefor the PC20 never could have read the upperbyte. But for the rest it would make no difference. My very first IDE interface was 8 bits and worked fine but I only could use 21 MB of the full 42 MB. FYI: the command registers are only 8 bits wide.
