As I have been conteplating such device for some time and did some very
basic research, I tell you this: there is no much reason to get it
inside as a riser for the VIC (which was what I originally wanted to do).

The reason is that, with the newer C64's at least, you have exactly the
same signals on the video port (separated luma / chroma) as on the VIC.
There are no more signals you can extract from the VIC to make it easier
to decode video, except perhaps for the video clocks (but you can
possibly reproduce them with your own crystals).

The only problem may be with older C64 or VIC-II where you have only
composite signal on the video port.
