Oh, sorry.  The "stop" bit(s) would be used for synchronization, that is,
the minimum frequency would be 44100/2/9 = 2450 or 44100/2/10 = 2205 Hz.  
That shouldn't be distorted too much by any filters, should it?

Hmm, maybe we should move this discussion out of the mailing list, since
nobody else seems to show interest in the development.  I was expecting to
get some ideas for the circuit design from other hardware gurus as well.
But the prototype can be improved later, and testing is easier once we
already have a CD out there.  It could be possible to fit all (or most)
VIC-20 and PET titles on one CD.
