So far I haven't observed this extra output in the PRINT DS$ command but perhaps those 8250 and 8250LP drives I came across had an older DOS version, or I didn't look very carefully? I still have some in the basement (sold the D90x0 drives though) so the next time I power one up I will see this for myself.
