On close inspection of the cartridge port pins I noticed that one of them was bent down. Whether it was actually shorted to another pin I'm not sure. Very difficult to see though, especially on the SX-64 behind that spring loaded flap. This bent pin probably doesn't help, so I'll see if I can replace the connector. Thanks all.
