WolfBlog

Reflections from a Swede in Norway.

Here you will find my small graffiti board where I write about things I come to think about.

In my blog, I write about the general unfairness of life, about spam mail, vintage computers, board games, Norwegians, current and not-so-current affairs, technology and whatever else occurs to me — in other words, a glorious mess. All opinion expressed here are of course my own, and all similarities with any living people is of course intentional.

Androids

Published: Tuesday 2010-11-02.

I have now updated my X10 Mini Pro to Android 2.1. It was quite annoying that I lost all applications, contacts and wifi password in the upgrade (despite having run the backup software first), but fortunately I at least got to keep my stored text messages. On the other hand it got me to finally export my contacts properly from my old phone, so even if I have lost the contacts I have changed or added since August, I now at least have pictures and addresses that I was missing before.

Regarding the actual upgrade I haven’t noticed any major differences yet, other than that more apps are available for download. There are quite a few apps that require a newer version of the operating system and that has been blocked from my phone before. I am testing Launcher Pro now, as a replacement for Sony Ericsson’s own home screen, after a tip from a friend, and it seems quite nice. If not else because it allows me to hide icons for software I never use and that I cannot uninstall (like the software for Facebook, Twitter and Gmail and other uninteresting stuff I’d rather run a web browser for).

I do miss my P1i and Symbian UIQ. But with UIQ development terminated and less and less new software I needed an upgrade.
