Ten years
Published: Tuesday 2010-01-05.
A cold January morning ten years ago, I arrived with my vanload of furniture to Oslo. I had only been visiting Oslo a few times before, a couple of times as a kid, and so once in an interview in late November 1999. Now I have been here for ten years and am quite certain that I will remain here at least for the forseeable future. Five years ago I was not quite as sure of that, but since then things have happened and life has changed.
Ten years ago I came here, having landed a dream job at Opera Software, my first real job after my university exam. Now ten years later I have had time to change jobs once, for to see that company go bankrupt nineteen months later, whereupon I went back to my job at Opera. I do like being back very much, even if I was a bit nervous when I started again after having been away for as long.
Ten years ago I was alone and felt a bit deserted, where I lived in a small basement flat at the outskirts of Oslo, without knowing a soul. For one thing, my collection of DVDs grew rather quickly for the first few months. Now ten years later I live in a nice flat at Vålerenga, together with a wife and kid.
Time flies, some things remain and some things change. I wonder where I am in life on the fifth of January in the year 2020?
