I am back in Essen. It has been two years since last time (it didn’t quite work going in October of last year), but everything is as usual. It is me, Allan and Thomas, who once again are colleagues since I am back at Opera. The fair looks just about like it did last time, the big companies are in the same places as usual, the hotel we live in is the same and we have already said hi to some people we met the previous years.
When it comes to buying, I have been a bit more relaxed this year. The end result the first day is just four games: Skyline 3000 from Z-Man Games, a game we playtested at the fair and that I found good enough to buy a copy of; Power Grid Factory Manager, a game I have not tested yet, but that I saw a demontration of beforehand and wanted; Straw, a quick humour game I found in a booth that I had not had time to test yet; and Europa 1912, an expansion for Ticket To Ride Europa, one of my favourite games.
We have tested a couple of more games, and Allan has bought a couple of games he read up on in advance. The hotel night was spent playing Dungeon Lords, a new game from Czech Games Edition ett nytt spel från Czech Board Games, who have published several good games the last few years. I like games with humour, and this game has quite a lot of that.
