Reflections from a Swede in Norway.

Here you will find my small graffiti board where I write about things I come to think about.

In my blog, I write about the general unfairness of life, about spam mail, vintage computers, board games, Norwegians, current and not-so-current affairs, technology and whatever else occurs to me — in other words, a glorious mess. All opinion expressed here are of course my own, and all similarities with any living people is of course intentional.

The new TV night, part 2

Published: Wednesday 2007-05-02.

It is good that there are alternatives to traditional TV, especially since it looks like Norway will not get any free channels in its terrestrial digital TV network. True, NRK will continue to broadcast without encryption, but for NRK we pay a TV license regardless of if it is encrypted or not. It does however look like both the national TV2 and the local channels will all be encrypted and become pay TV, and that MTG will not be given an opportunity to launch its new Viasat 4, a Norwegian version of TV6, as a free channel.

Tragic, but that is what happens when capitalism decides, unlike Sweden the companies building the Norwegian network have been allowed to form the contents as they see fit, and then this is what happens. Personally I live in the city within the reach of cable TV, so I will not be affected, but for everyone living outside the reach of cables this is definitely a nedtur, as they say in Norway.
