As I mentioned yesterday I am on a trip to Poland, my girlfriend gave me a mini-vacation for Christmas, we left Saturday afternoon and return to Oslo on Tuesday. Here we have had a wonderfully nice day, the sun has been shining from clear blue skies with warm spring winds blowing by, while we have had reports about snowfall and temperatures below freezing in Norway. The sun has warmed and we had coffee on an open-air café by the waterside.

Gdańsk is a very nice town, after having been almost completely bombed into devastation during the second world war, they have rebuilt it to its previous glory, and it is almost impossible to see that the houses in the old parts of the town have been reconstructed, they look very authentic. The many big churches are very impressive, especially these days when the anniversary of the passing of the Polish-born pope John Paul II is remembered.

We spent the night at the cinema, where we watched Memoirs of a Geisha, a movie about the secret life of the geishas in pre-war Japan. A well told story that I can recommend to everyone, especially those that are interested in Japanese culture. The movie we really wanted to see, however, was Ice Age II, but it was only shown in Polish dubbing, and even though I am interested in languages, I do prefer to watch movies in languages I can understand, the one we came to see was at least subtitled.
