WolfBlog

Reflections from a Swede in Norway.

Here you will find my small graffiti board where I write about things I come to think about.

In my blog, I write about the general unfairness of life, about spam mail, vintage computers, board games, Norwegians, current and not-so-current affairs, technology and whatever else occurs to me — in other words, a glorious mess. All opinion expressed here are of course my own, and all similarities with any living people is of course intentional.

New logotype (almost)

Published: Friday 2005-11-25.

The front page, and all the other pages that use it, now have a new logotype. Or, at least almost, since the new one looks just like the old one, with the only difference that I know have it in SVG format. The difference to the old picture in PNG format is that the new one can be scaled (zoomed) up without losing quality.

For the picture to be shown correctly, your web browser must support SVG, for instance Opera 8 or later or by using Adobe’s plug-in.

If your web browser had supported SVG you would have seen the scalable logotype here...
Logotype in SVG format; see how it still looks good even if you zoom in on the page.

Looks much better :) I like to zoom it, zoom it :) And see it is not jagged. SVG rulezz! Especially in Opera ;)

Nicely done, Peter! Looks like you used Adobe Illustrator to perform the PNG to SVG conversion, correct? Just curious.

Yeah, I already had the logotype in a vector format. I made it using an ancient version of Windows Draw that I got on a cover CD years back (the image of the wolf dates back even longer, from a clip-art collection that came with an old Corel Draw package).

I exported the image in Encapsulated PostScript (.eps) format from Windows Draw, and imported it into Adobe Illustrator. Illustrator had some problems with the font used in the text, so I had to redo that part to get it to look nice, but after that I just did a "save for the web" to get a usable file size.

The file is still way bigger than the corresponding bitmap. But that's probably because the clip-art of the wolf has been converted several times (Corel Draw to WordPerfect graphics to Windows Draw to Encapsulated PostScript to Adobe Illustrator to SVG), and is a bit complex. It is nice to have it zoom without losing quality, though.

Hmmm, jag lyckades få en oanvändbar scrollbar på den ibland i 8.50.
