My mobile phone is a Sony Ericsson P800 has works just fine since I bought it over two and a half years ago (it is, in other words, almost antique by now). But then it suddenly started acting weird when I visited Stockholm last week, suddenly the battery was unable to retain power properly, it discharged in just a few hours.

First I obviously suspected that the battery had given in, after all it is also over two and a half years old, but when I put the battery in another phone it retained the power without any problems, and my phone discharged the battery from the other phone in the same way it had done with mine. After quite a lot of work I managed to figure out what the problem was — I had too many text messages stored…

More or less I haven’t deleted any text messages since I bought the phone, so now I had about a thousand (read) messages in the inbox. Apparently the phone was unable to handle that very well, but after having cleared them up everything works just fine again.

However, I can’t keep from wondering a bit on how the heck the number of text messages I have stored can affect the battery, but mostly I am just happy that it works again…
