Reflections from a Swede in Norway.

Here you will find my small graffiti board where I write about things I come to think about.

In my blog, I write about the general unfairness of life, about spam mail, vintage computers, board games, Norwegians, current and not-so-current affairs, technology and whatever else occurs to me — in other words, a glorious mess. All opinion expressed here are of course my own, and all similarities with any living people is of course intentional.

Opera Mini — Opera for your mobile phone

Published: Wednesday 2005-08-10.

Opera Software today released a new product, Opera Mini, which makes it possible for (more or less) everyone with a mobile phone to surf the web. It works by being split into two parts, a Java client running on the phone and a server running Opera and converting the web pages to a simpler format that the Java client can handle. I have tested Opera Mini for a while now and must say that it really exceeds my expectations. The phones I have tested it on also have the full version of Opera installed, but also compared to that Opera Mini fares very well.

Opera Mini is distributed through content providers. Currently Opera Mini is only available through TV2 Norway. If you live in Norway you can download it by sending a SMS message to phone number 1984 saying OPERA, and you will get the download instructions in return.

Also look out for the advertisements on TV2.

Update: For more screenshots, see the Opera press pages.

Peter Karlsson has posted some really nice comparative screenshots of Opera Mini and the regular Opera version as running on a Sony Ericsson P900 phone.

This is just so incredibly cool. Opera has released a browser that will run on almost any J2ME (Java micro) cell phone with data connectivity. (Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Nokia and others have support for J2ME and GPRS). Norwegian blogger and...

Tyvärr är Opera Mini för närvarande bara tillgänglig via TV2 Norge. Vi får väl bara hoppas att den blir tillgänglig i Sverige i framtiden.
