I went to the cinema yesterday evening to see Fantastic Four. I didn’t really have any great expectations about the film being very good, especially not after recently having watched a good superhero film I was anticipating a minor disappointment, but since I always held Fantastic Four as my favourite superhero group I couldn’t resist going anyway.
The film has received a rather cold reception in the press, and I understand why. The film is quite slow and never really gets started, three quarters of the film is used to explain the background story and the actual battle with the supervillain is ridiculously short. My recommendation is to hold off seeing the film until it is available on rental DVD. Personally I will probably buy it, but I am going to wait until I find it for less then a hundred (which usually isn’t that hard, at least not in Norwegian kroner), mostly to complete my collection of superhero films.
By the way, it is interesting to note that while the TV channels spend the summer showing old re-runs and actively trying to get people not to watch TV, the film companies have big premieres. I can’t quite figure that one out.
