Batman begins (and who goes next?)
Published: Sunday 2005-07-17.
Since DebConf now is officially over, but my flight home isn’t until tomorrow night, I took the opportunity to go to the cinema and watch Batman Begins. Going to the cinema in Finland is an interesting experience since the movies are subtitled both in Finnish and Swedish, simultaneously. There are two lines of text, as usual, it’s just that one of the lines is in Finnish and the other one is in Swedish. For people like me that are used to watching movies and TV shows subtitled in just one language it takes a few minutes to adapt to just reading one of the lines, and that the Swedish line is the one at the bottom doesn’t make it easier to see the text at the same time as the actual picture.
The movie itself was pretty okay, even though the review I heard on the radio the other day thought differently. (Minor spoiler alert ahead:) It is the age old history about the guy wanting revenge, with the badguy’s unexpected return, the love interest and several big explosions. But despite all that, I have heard it said once that there really only are four stories to tell, all other are just variations on the basic theme, it was a good movie. Special effects were well done, the lines were okay, an average amount of humour and all that. It was worth the 7.50 € the ticket cost me (it was supposed to cost 10, but the local guy I went with had a discount card). Maybe I’ll even buy it on DVD when it arrives.
