The summer was short this year

During the past weekend I have enjoyed the beautiful weather, with the sun shining and the thermometer showing fifteen degrees (in the shadow), yesterday I had dinner at an open-air café. Not the first this year, but the first when I could eat outdoors just dressed in a short-sleeved shirt and thin summer pants–it just felt like summer, or at least early summer, was here.
But then Monday came. Went up rather early today, even though today is a holiday, to wash clothes and spring-clean my flat and got really depressed when I looked out the window... Rain and rough weather and only five degrees. No, that taste of summer didn’t last for very long, so I guess I was lucky that I was able to take the chance to enjoy it while it lasted.
Tomorrow is 17th of May, Norway’s national day. I’ll probably go downtown to watch the Norwegians for a while tomorrow with a couple of friends, that is usually quite fun.

I nordöstra Svealand förutspåddes det snöblandat regn till eftermiddag/kväll. Om det blev fullt så illa vet jag inte, men av väderkartorna att döma ser det fortfarande vitt ut. Natten till torsdag utlovas som kallast (?) -4 grader men uppehåll i t.ex. Torsby.
Ha en trevlig 17. Mai. Jag hörde ett kåseri på radion om hur det varit generalrepetition förra veckan i samband med japanskt statsbesök, men att mängden musikkårer och folk på stan var ingenting mot morgondagen. Kåsören raljerade också över varför Sverige - som inte har något att fira - ska ha en nationaldag. Han betackade sig som så många andra för Gustav Vasa (vilket jag som historieokunnig inte förstår) och menade att det vore bättre med 9 juni då Birger har namnsdag, alternativt att man flyttade den namnsdagen till den 6:e.
I debatten om en borttagen och en tillagd helgdag har jag förresten aldrig tidigare hört så många argument varför annandag pingst är så viktig som när den inte längre är helgdag. Det är kyrkans näst äldsta helg, oövervinnerligt viktig (fast ingen kan förklara riktigt varför) men plötsligt måste folk gå till jobbet den dagen!
