Reflections from a Swede in Norway.

Here you will find my small graffiti board where I write about things I come to think about.

In my blog, I write about the general unfairness of life, about spam mail, vintage computers, board games, Norwegians, current and not-so-current affairs, technology and whatever else occurs to me — in other words, a glorious mess. All opinion expressed here are of course my own, and all similarities with any living people is of course intentional.

Collective depression

Published: Saturday 2005-01-01.

Call me cynical if you wish, but something I haven’t quite figured out is why we Scandinavians have to be so collectively depressed as soon as something terrible happens? Yes, what happened is terrible, and yes, I have been sitting almost like glued in front of 24, the news channel from Swedish television, since this started, but what I do not understand is why there is such a collective prohibition against having fun?

Okay that you should tone down a bit and not necessarily scream in front of everyone that you want to have some fun, but what I cannot understand is why SR, SVT and NRK have to remove all programmes that have even the slightest connection to humour? I, at least, feel that I could use a couple of that kind of programmes so that I can think of something else for a while. Okay, so I didn’t really cry over that I didn’t get to see Dinner for One yesterday night, but I cannot say that I fully understand why it wasn’t transmitted.

It is almost as if “the Government” want to force a collective depression on us. I don’t like such things, I don’t need help feeling depressed, I can do that very well on my own, thank you very much...
